Spoiled Figs Source of Milk Aflatoxins

The Ministry of Agriculture has identified spoiled figs as one of the sources of aflatoxins in raw milk, it said today.

The figs had fallen from the tree and were lying on the sheep grazing grounds. Tests confirmed the presence of M1 aflatoxin in the figs.

Tests are still being carried out to find the sources of infection, said the ministry, adding that they believe that the figs are not the sole source of aflatoxins.

The ministry reiterated that there is no evidence that any infected dairy products entered retail stores.
