Police High Alert After Bishop Killed in Turkey

pope Police are on high alert in the wake of the murder of a Catholic bishop in Turkey just one day before the arrival of Pope Benedict XVI on the island.

Apostolic Vicar for Anatolia Luigi Padovese was stabbed to death earlier today and his driver was arrested on suspicion of murdering him. The 63-year-old was due to travel with the Pope, who arrives on the island on June 4th.

Fears are rising that other extremists may try to travel to south Cyprus through border points along the Green Line which are difficult to police due to the lack of cooperation between Greek and Turkish Cypriot authorities, say analysts.
