Rialto Theatre, Limassol, presents its upcoming diary of events for December 2009, featuring a broad range of cultural events, from ballet to plays.

Tuesday 1 & Wednesday 2 - Festen

THOC’s central stage presents David Eldridge’s play on child abuse in the family. It was first presented as a film directed by Thomas Winderberg (Dogma ’95), a film that shocked but also received many awards. The theatrical adaptation was first presented in 2004 in London’s West End to high acclaim

Friday 4 - Thanos Mikroutsikos  and Ypogia Revmanta

An audiovisual concert where Ypogia Revmata adapt and interpret in their own particular way socio-political songs from the wide repertoire of Thanos Mikroutsikos and works of great poets such as V.Mayakovsky, N. Hikmet, B. Brecht, Y. Ritsos, A. Alkeos, M. Eleftheriou, M. Anagnostakis, Fr. Bigion, K. Tripolitis, N. Kavvadias, B. Bierman and others.

Wednesday 9 - Whose life is it anyway?

THOC’s new Stage presents Brian Clark’s play that touches sometimes even with humour on the sensitive topic of euthanasia. When, after an accident, Ken Harrison remains completely paralyzed he decides to fight for the right of a dignified death and finds himself confronting society and state

Saturday 12  - Carl Palmer

The legend of the international rock scene comes to Cyprus. One of the three prominent musicians of the famous Emerson Lake and Palmer, a group that sold over 35,000.000 discs, Carl Palmer never ceased to play leading part in contemporary rock music making recordings and touring throughout the world, being for years the best drummer ever.

Sunday 13 - Marinos Mitellas – A life of Songs

Epilogi Cultural movement, with this concert of choral music, pays tribute to Marinos Mitellas, the teacher and maestro. Participating are the Komlo Teachers’ Choir from Hungary, Aris Choir and the choirs of Epilogi

Tuesday 15 - Seven Tenors

A magical combination of the seven soloists Alexander Bogdanov, Alexander Zakharov, Maxim Paster, Edward Semyonov, Alexander Skvarko and Michael Urusov who are members of the top opera theatres of Moscow presenting a programme of songs that were initially made popular by Mario Lanza, Placido Domingo, José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti

Thursday 17 - THOC’s Experimental Stage

Based on Ovid’s wonderful myths of his Metamorphoses, the performance tries to present with tenderness, humour and directness the stirring ancient stories where each one of us recognises ourselves through love and loss

Friday 18 - Christmas Gala

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra presents great moments from the musicals: My Fair Lady, Les Misérables, Cats, Cabaret, Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Man of La Mancha

Saturday 19 - The Sleeping Beauty

The Russian State Ballet consisting of 40 excellent dancers presents this 19th century masterpiece of the Russian Imperial Ballet. This work combines the ingenious choreography of Marius Petipa and the great work of Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

The Russian State Ballet was established in 1993 by the much awarded artist Valery Lantratov, a dancer well known for his exceptional technique and pleasant personality.  He was one of the dancers in the troupe of Rudolf Nureyev and in the ballet companies of Maya Pliseckoj, Vladimira Vasilieva and Ekaterina Maximova.
