Bomb Squad Investigates Suspicious Object
Bomb specialists, the UN, CID and the fire services are investigating a suspicious object in Chryssaliniontissa neighborhood near the buffer zone, said the duty officer speaking to CyprusNewsReport.com.
"The only information we have at the moment is that a suspicious object was found by a member of the public and was reported to a police station, so we sent our people" said the police officer.
An eyewitness from the neighborhood said that a UN bomb specialist had retrieved an object from the UN-controlled buffer zone at around 10.15pm. Other sources at the scene speculated that the object may have been part of the explosives cache stolen from Palodia army camp last month and that more explosives were found in the Ledra Palace Hotel. 172 kg of PG-2 explosives were stolen from the camp, just over half of them have been found hidden around the Limassol area.
The Nicosia neighborhood in the old city was flooded with reporters, fire engine, and police squad cars as the story broke just minutes ago.
