Syria-Cyprus MoUs Signed

assadSyria and Cyprus has signed five memoranda of understanding between the two countries during a 2-day visit by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The agreements include a memorandum of understanding between the Minsitry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and the Syrian Renewable Energy ministry. There was also a memorandum of understanding between the Cyprus Ports Authority for the port of Limassol and Port of Latakia to cooperate in providing maritime transport services. A new cooperation on environmental protection between 2011-2013 was also signed.

According to public statements made by both leaders, Syria sees Cyprus as a key ally in pressuring Israel to return the Golan Heights to Lebanon, while Cyprus views Syria as a friendly country which can pressure Turkey for a solution to the Cyprus problem.
