Cyprus To Issue Two DTT Licenses
The government is about to issue two digital terrestrial television licenses in 2010, one to the state broadcaster CyBC and a second one to a private broadcaster by auction.
Yesterday, Ministers of Communications and Works Nikos Nicolaides and Interior Minister Neoclis Sylikiotis gave a press conference about the introduction of digital terrestrial television, after the announcement for the public tender for the second DTT platform.
Digital Terrestrial Television (DTTV or DTT) is the technological evolution and advance from analogue terrestrial television, and broadcasts to a satellite dish or cable connection.
THe main advantage of DTT is that many more channels can fit on the digital transmission and interactive services are available. However, experts say that amongst the disadvantages is that new equipment like a set-top box may be required and switching channels is slower because of time delays in decoding digital signals.
