Two Road Fatalities in 24 Hours

Two people were killed over the last 24 hours in separate road accidents in the Morphou and Nicosia districts, said police.

At 10.25 yesterday morning, 39-year-old Nicosia man Christodoulos Polycarpou died after his vehicle fell into a 100 metre ravine on the side of the road. The accident happened on Kalopanayioti-Geraki road, said Morphou district traffic police.

Meanwhile, the second pedestrian in 48 hours to be killed on the roads died after he was hit by a car on Tseri Avenue in Strovolos, Nicosia. Timoleon Charilaou was taking a walk on the side of the busy avenue when a car driven by a 56-year-old woman veered off the road and collided with the pensioner.

He was rushed to Nicosia General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries at 9.20pm last night, said police.

Nicosia traffic police are investigating the accident, which follows Thursday's report that a 63-year-old woman was killed on the same road.
