Cypriots Stranded in Egypt
An Egypt Airlines flight with 29 Cypriot citizens on board has been delayed at Cairo Airport and Cyprus authorities are trying to find a way to get them to the island, according to a Cyprus News Agency report.
Director of Consular Affairs Andreas Zeno said that ten of the Cypriots are being moved to a private American Airlines flight to Larnaca. But he could not confirm when they would arrive on the island because the airport is flooded with evacuees and many flights have been postponed.
Meanwhile, 148 foreign nationals and the Cyprus Embassy in Cairo spokesman's family arrived last night at Larnaca Aiport via a Lithuanian Airlines plane.
Anti-government rallies are continuing in Egypt for the seventh consecutive day with the 'march of a million', and according to the BBC, all roads to Cairo have been blocked by the military. Evacuees trying to get to Cairo's airports will face more obstacles at railway stations amid an indefinite Railway Authority ban on train journeys, said online news source Almasryalyoum.com.
Many more foreigners are expected to be evacuated to Cyprus on Wednesday, while the European Union said it is preparing plans for a possible flood of refugees from the crisis-stricken country.
