Cyprus Gains Tourists from Egypt Crisis
Thousands of Finnish tourists who were planning to travel to Egypt for their spring holiday are now rescheduling their flights for Cyprus and other destinations, according to Helsingin Sanomat's travel section.
Tour operators are "feverishly searching" for replacement destinations to the Canary Islands, Spain and Cyprus and tour operator Alma Tour will start their trips to Pafos early this year, said its sales director.
According to travel professionals, other large countries like Germany will also be diverting their Egypt-bound tourist bookings to other destinations.
Egyptians have turned out in their millions to mass rallies that have continued unabated for the last eight days. Today, tensions rose once again amid clashes between thousands of pro-Mubarak supporters and anti-government protestors. According to news reports from the BBC and Reuters, tens of protestors were injured in Cairo's Tahrir Square. Meanwhile, foreigners are leaving in their thousands, many of them travelling to Cyprus as a bridge to other countries.
