MoD Contrite Over Artillery Dumping
Cyprus' Ministry of Defence has expressed contrition over the dumping of anti-tank shells and boxes in a Nicosia riverbed.
The statement followed a report by Sigma TV last night.
"The action in question does not reflect the environmental policy of the Ministry, nor does it reflect the disposal methods of arms. It was wrong and will be rectified by efforts from the army," said a spokesperson from the MoD.
Moreover, the MoD's Environmental Committee is constantly trying to prevent any damage to the environment from army activities, added the spokesperson.
Finally, the MoD thanked the mass media for reporting the problem so that similar situations can be avoided in the future.
