Konia Woman Fends off Burglars with Wooden Club
A mother-of-one in Konia village frightened off would-be burglars with a wooden club last night after they tried to break into her home through the front door, she said in an email sent to the village council to warn other residents of the Paphos region.
Yola Craig had just put her son to bed at 9.30pm when she heard a few noises and realised someone was trying to break in. They had completely broken off the doorknob when she threw the door open and went at them with the club.
The police were called and her neighbors came out to help, but the burglars got away.
"The warning here is that they had obviously been watching the house, the fly screeens had all been left open so the windows had been checked to see if they were locked whilst we were sat downstairs and they knew we had just gone to bed when they started to break through the front door," said Craig.
The burglars "obviously have no principles and did not care if someone got hurt" she said, adding that she is relieved that her partner will be returning from Afghanistan today.
