Protest by Divorced Women's Association

divorce cyprusThe Divorced Women's Association protested outside the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, and its president Loulla Savvides was met by House Speaker Marios Garoyian.

Garoyian said he listened to their problems, namely the fact that banks force them to pay their ex-husbands' business debts.

"We must approach the problem with social sensitivity," said Garoyian, who promised to speak with President Christofias and party leaders on their behalf.

"I will speak with them to see about the possibility of a common effort...to find practical solutions," said Garoyian.

The women said they would continue an indefinite hunger strike outside the Presidential Palace unless the president commits to solving their problems.
