President Urges Voter Participation in May 22 Elections

President Demetris Christofias has urged the electorate to actively participate in May 22nd's parliamentary elections, saying that the right to vote is sacred.

"Do not let others decide for you. Let's show in this election that people are actively involved in politics," he said.

The president assured the public that all necessary steps to ensure that the May 22nd elections are fair.

With the vote, people freely express their views and make their choices, he said.

Whether the president's appeal will have the desired effect remains to be seen, polls leading up to the elections have shown an unusually high level of voter apathy and disappointment with political parties.
