Internet Cafe Mugging Victim Dies of Injuries
The 42-year-old Kazakhstan national who was mugged for the proceeds of an Internet cafe/betting shop in Limassol has died of his injuries, said police.
His attacker got away with 3000 euros and police have launched a manhunt to try and track down whoever was responsible. They are investigating the case as premeditated murder and police spokesman Michalis Katsounodos said that anyone with information can give anonymous tips by calling the Citizen's Line 1460.
"The police are of course worried that someone is amongst us who will take a human life for a few thousand euros," said Katsounodos.
But he denied that police are not keeping robberies under control, saying that in the first four months of 2011, 45 robberies were committed and 26 were solved. This is compared to the first four months of 2010, when 54 robberies were committed and only 18 were solved.
Earlier this week, the victim was hospitalised in critical condition after being hit on the head as he was walking towards his car in a parking lot next to the Internet cafe.
