Drunk Driver Arrested After Deadly Road Accident

vietnamese woman killed in road accident cyprusA 53-year-old Argaka village man has been arrested after he hit and fatally injured a Vietnamese woman with his car as she was crossing the Polis-Argaka road, said police.

The British driver was on his way to Polis at 9.10 pm last night when his vehicle hit the 49-year-old pedestrian as she was walking on the left side of the road. She was rushed to Polis Hospital and then moved to Paphos General Hospital, but did not survive her injuries.

The 53-year-old driver was tested for alcohol and police said he had an initial blood-alcohol level of 170mg, and a final level of 125mg. The legal limit is 22mg.

He was taken into custody for questioning and Paphos traffic police are investigating the crash. The woman's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, police said she worked as a domestic helper.
