by Natalie Haughton....There’s a chance hear traditional music from Venezuala played on the ‘Cuatro’. The concert is by Venezuela en 3 and also features the guitar and saxophone and they will be playing on the 6th July the Famagusta Gate Moat just after midnight.
The members of the occasional local rock band LST will give up their proper, grown up jobs for one night to take to the stage and play live for a good cause. They will at RED on Monday 4th July 9.30pm. Its €20 on the door and the money raised will go towards the Alkionides Charity to help a family whose 2 children have serious handicaps. Call 2276 7711.
Cosmic Gate will be playing their Back to the Future set at Makronissos beach Club in Ayia Napa. Featuring a live vocal performance by Australian vocalist Emma Hewitt. Opening set is Wippenberg with warm ups from Shadow and Deep Impact. The Cyprus Rialto Ethnic World Music Festival is on through July. It features musical talent and songs from Italy, Greece, the Middle East and Spain. The line up includes Offina Zoe, Trio Khoury & Co, Kafeney Ethnic Ensemble and Charbel Rouhana and the Beirut Oriental Ensemble. The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra under conductor Anastasios Strikos will be performing a selection of film score music on July 6th at 8.30pm at Strovolos Municipal Theatre. Arie Antiche is a concert featuring a selection of old arias from the middle Ages and the 16th–17th century. It includes, among others, compositions by Vivaldi, Gluck, Durante and Buononcini. The performance is by soprano Sona Gargaloyan, tenor Marios Charalambous, mezzo-soprano Katie Economidou and pianist Manolis Neophytou. The concert is on Tues July 5th at 8.30pm. The 2nd Quantum Nicosia Marathon and half Marathon is set to take place on Oct 9th. Last year 5,000 runners took part and hopefully more will join the fun this year. More at www.nicosiamarathon.com
There will be concerts throught July at the Hadjianotnas Winery in Parekklisia. On Sat July 2nd the Elton John tribute band Crocodile Rock will be perfoming and on Friday 22nd July, Island Blend will play hits from popular West End shows. On July 31st Limassol is attempting to get into the Guinness Book of World Records with the longest traditional Greek dance, the Hasapiko. The area where the dance will be performed is the seafront from Molos to Dasoudi Beach (approx 2.5km). About 800 people have signed up to take part.
