Seeds from Egypt Source of Deadly E-coli Outbreak

e-coli outbreakThe European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) said that the source of a recent E-coli outbreak in Europe is fenugreek seeds imported from Egypt and used to grow sprouts.

Sprouts should be cooked thoroughly to avoid more E-coli outbreaks and EFSA advises consumers not to grow their own sprouts or eat sprouted seeds unless they have been cooked thoroughly.

Complications from E-coli has killed 49 people European countries and infected more than 4,200.

The EU has withdrawn Egyptian fenugreek seeds from the market until the health crisis is over.
