by Natalie Haughton...A reggae fiesta will take place on Governors Beach, Limassol on Saturday July 9th. Sirius productions are bringing the King Shiloh Sounds System. Also playing will be some of Cyprus’s leading reggae session musicians not to mention food and coconut based cocktails. It start at 6pm until late. Entry is €10.
Cosmic Gate will be playing their Back to the Future set at Makronissos beach Club in Ayia Napa on Saturday July 9th. Featuring a live, vocal performance from Australian singer Emma Hewitt. There is a sand castle building competition on Sunday July 10th at the beach next to the St Raphael in Limassol from 3.30-8pm. The theme is ‘Waterworld’ and is open to anyone aged 12-35 with cash prizes to be won. There is also a smaller event for younger children 6-12, their theme is ‘Protecting the Sea Turtle’. The Cyprus Rialto Ethnic World Music Festival is on through July. It features musical talent and songs from Italy, Greece, the Middle East and Spain. The line up includes Offina Zoe, Trio Khoury & Co, Kafeney Ethnic Ensemble and Charbel Rouhana and the Beirut Oriental Ensemble. Watch a whole host of classic films under the stars. The 13th Summer Open Air Movie Marathon at the Constantia Theatre starts on Wednesday July 13th until Sept 4th. On July 13th, 22nd and 28th the movie will be ‘Reflections in A Golden Eye’. Made in 1967, it stars Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando. On July 14th and 30, it’s ‘The Missouri Breaks’ from 1976 with Brando and Jack Nicholson. There’s classic Hitchcock on July 15th and 23rd, James Stewart stars in ‘Vertigo’. Cary Grant stars in ‘North by Northwest on July 16th & 24th. The 1963 movie ‘Charade’ with Audrey Hepburn is on July 17th & 27th. The musical ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ with Gene Kelly is being screened on July 21st & 31st, with 1966 film 10.30PM Summer on July 20th and 29th, starring Melina Mecuri. The 2nd Quantum Nicosia Marathon and half Marathon is set to take place on Oct 9th. Last year 5,000 runners took part and hopefully more will join the fun this year. More at www.nicosiamarathon.com

On July 31st Limassol is attempting to get into the Guinness Book of World records with the longest traditional Greek dance, the Hasapiko. The area where the dance will be performed is the seafront from Molos to Dasoudi Beach (approx 2.5km). About 800 people have signed up to take part.
