BirdLife Releases New Video on Bird Trapping
BirdLife Cyprus has just finished a short film on the trapping situation in Cyprus which was presented at the Bern Convention Conference (6-8 July 2011) that took place in Larnaca.
The 4-minute film titled the “The missing visitors of Cyprus” describes the extent of trapping on the island and highlights the lack of political will and the hypocrisy of a group of politicians who have been trying to loosen trapping legislation amid a sharp rise in poaching.
“The film is dynamic and gives a very good overview of the trapping situation in Cyprus” said Birdlife Campaigns Manager Martin Hellicar.
“Having taken footage from other trapping related films, we made this short film to bring out our message even more regarding the hypocrisy of politicians to bird trapping, to pressurize for greater enforcement, to highlight the lack of deterrent fines and to push for more action on the restaurants that serve ambelopoulia, the key driver of this ecological disaster” he said.
