Cyprus Arts & Living Events July - August

On July 31st Limassol is attempting to get into the Guinness Book of World records with the longest traditional Greek dance, the Hasapiko.  The area where the dance will be performed is the seafront from Molos to Dasoudi Beach (approx 2.5km).  About 800 people have signed up to take part.  Cost is €5 to take part, and the proceeds are going to charity. UK Fringe Festival favourite Bunty Looping will be bringing her one-woman show to Timothy’s Bar in Paphos on Tuesday Aug 2nd   tickets are €5.  Call 9942 4417.  Bunty will also performing at Sousami Bar in Limassol on Aug 3rd at 10pm.  Entry is free.  Call 9949 4579.

The Grammy nominated and Mobo winner, Jamaican singer Sean Paul will be live in Cyprus on Sunday August 7th.   He’ll perfom his greatest hits at Dolce Club in Limassol from 10pm – 5am.  Tickets on sale from Paradise of Music of Music in Nicosia and in Larnaca from the Amalfi Café priced €40 Arena / €80 VIP. Friday 5th August there’s Poolside Jazz with the Crotchet Babies at the Hadjiantonas Winery in Parekklisia.  Playing standards and new numbers too.   The concert starts at 7.30 p.m. Tickets cost €10.00 and include a complimentary glass of wine.  The concert is in aid of the ‘Big H Appeal’ for Cans for Kids. Acclaimed actor John Malkovich will be in Cyprus performing at the Makarios III Amphitheatre in a play call ‘The Infernal Comedy: Confession of a serial killer’. The production also features music from Vienna’s Akademie Orchestra.  The date is September 17th and tickets go on sale on Mon July 25th through or from the Pallas Theatre in Nicosia, (22 410181).

The Aboslut Summer Party with Sander van Doorn takes place on Friday Auguest 12th at Makronissos Beach Club, kicking off at 10pm.  There’ll be opening sets from Michel Fialas and DJ Peyo and performances from Alice-in-Flames and Dark Angels.  Tickets cost €25 in advance from  or €30 on the night. Watch a whole host of classic films under the stars.  The 13th Summer Open Air Movie Marathon at the Constantia Theatre runs until Sept 4th. Friday the 29th July its 1966 film 10.30PM Summer starring Melina Mecuri.   On July 30th, it’s ‘The Missouri Breaks’ from 1976 with Brando and Jack Nicholson.  The musical ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ with Gene Kelly is being screened on July 31st.  The cinema is at 15 Solonos Michaelides St, Pallouriotissa.  The film rolls at 8.30pm.  Call 2234 9085

The 2nd Quantum Nicosia Marathon and half Marathon are set to take place on Oct 9th.  Last year 5,000 runners took part and hopefully more will join the fun this year. More at
