Cyprus Arts & Events September 19th - October 10th

by Natalie Haughton - The Nicosia Dog Shelter is holding an Adoption afternoon on Monday 19th Sept from 5-8pm at the Time- Off Café in Latsia (next to Alpha Bank).  All dogs adopted will be sterilised and there’s a chance to buy leads, mugs and shirts. 

Under new legislation dogs are now allowed on some beaches.  5 have been designated as dog friendly.  Achelia in Paphos, Louma in Ayia Napa, Mansoura in Kato Pyrgos, Sofiades in Larnaca and Tsierkezou in Limassol.

The award-winning photographer Dimitrios Markoglou is exhibiting his portraits on canvas at Famagusta Gate until Sept 20th.  Mon – Sun 10am-1pm and 5pm-8pm.

From Sept 22nd-25th Limassol plays host to the Euro- Mediterranean Choral Fair.  It’s called Choral Crossroads 2011 and features groups from Estonia, Egypt, Greece, Serbia Jordan, Lebanon, Hungary and of course Cyprus.  For the full schedule of events and venues check the website

The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra is performing Peter and the Wolf featuring puppet theatre in Nicosia on Sat 11th Oct at 5pm.  It’s free and entrance vouchers can be obtained from Pallas theatre in advance.  Call 22410181. There are also shows in Larnaca and Limassol.  More details from

The 2nd Quantum Nicosia Marathon and half Marathon are set to take place on Oct 9th.  Last year 5,000 runners took part and hopefully more will join the fun this year. More at

The “Aimez-vous Brahms?” concert takes place in Nicosia on Thurs Oct 13th at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre.  It will be performed by the CSO featuring soloist Andreas Boyde.  Tickets cost €12 from 2231 3010.
