by Natalie Haughton - Kid Culture’s Family Expo 2011 is from Oct 20th-22nd in Acropolis Park (opposite M&S on Athalassa Avenue). There’ll lots of advice and information on all aspects of parenting and bringing up children in Cyprus.

The 5th Annual Environment and Culture Festival is on Sunday 23rd Oct from 2:00pm to 8:00pm organized by ASTRA 92.8 in cooperation with the Commissioner for the Environment and Strovolos Municipality. It’s in Acropolis Park and will feature music and dance, stalls with energy saving products, organic and green products, traditional delicacies, a cultural and traditional handicrafts corner. There will also be an eco-friendly workshop for children plus information on the ‘Stop trafficking -because people are not for sale’ initiative.

The Sunflower project is holding a fund raising Gala dinner and concert to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness on Sat 22nd Oct. The event will be held at Intercontinental Hotel at the Aphrodite Hills Resort. Performing at the dinner will be the Italian soprano Tiziana Sojat, British tenor Martin Toal, Cypriot soprano Lenia Kallis and British violinist Craig Owen. Tickets cost €64.50 each. Sirius Dog Sanctuary in Monagroulli, Limassol are holding a fundraising event on Sat 29th Oct. Run, Walk or Jog with a ‘Sanctuary’ dog or BYO! The Vintage Rhythms big band sound from the UK will be performing at a charity dinner and dance at The Coral Beach Hotel on Saturday, October 22 at 7.30pm. Proceeds are going to St. Michael's Hospice. Tickets are €35 which includes a bottle of wine for two, soft drinks and water. Entry is by ticket only. The next live show of Cyprus Has Talent is on Sun 23rd Oct at the 7 Seas Live Music Bar in Limassol. Under conductor Edward Higginbottom, Haydn’s music ‘The Creation’ is being performed at an evening concert on Oct 26th at the Strovolos Municipal theatre. The concert features soprano Sofia Gargaloyan, tenor Thomas Hobbs and bass-baritone Kyros Patsalides together with the choir of New College Oxford. Tickets are on sale from the box office priced €12. The postponed 3rd MetaLmorphosiS Festival will now take place on October 28th. This year, the Swedish melodic death metal band “Arch Enemy” will be live on stage together with performances by Plague of Angels (UK), Sonik Death Monkey (Cy), Disharmony (Gr) and The Fallen Within (Gr). If you hold tickets from the cancelled July show your tickets are valid for this new date.
Heritage Private School annual fireworks party and disco takes place on Friday Nov 4th from 7pm. There’ll be food and drink available and the disco is after display. The Episkopi Garrison Bonfire Night will take place at Lemmings Beach, Happy Valley on Sat 5th November. The bonfire will be lit at 18:15 and the fireworks will start at 18:30. Food and drink will be available. Other attractions include: Music from the The Band of the Army Air Corps, Face Painting, and a Bouncy Castle. Entrance is free with proceeds going to the Army Benevolent Fund.
There’s a chamber music concert featuring members of the CSO playing the music of Brahms and Tchaikovsky on Sat Nov 5th at the Pallas theatre by Paphos Gate at 5pm. Entrance is free
The Cyprus International 4 Day Challenge is on from 24th-27th November. It includes a 6k time trial at Coral Beach, an 11k Hill run in the Akamas nature reserve, the multi-terrain ½ Marathon and the 10K Paphos city run. If you can donate any of the following mattresses, children's shoes (school and trainers), slippers, writing and art materials, clothes, school bags, children's & adolescent's underclothes, towels, bikes & older children's toys, computers, sofas & armchairs. The items need to be in good condition.
