Partial Moon Eclipse on New Year's Eve
There will be a partial eclipse of the moon visible from Cyprus on New Year's Eve, said the Meteorological Service.
Weather permitting, Cypriot residents will be able to see the eclipse with the naked eye. Lunar eclipses happen when the moon passes through the earth's shadow, but most of them cannot be noticed because they are too subtle.
The moon will start moving into the earth's shadow at 7:15pm and will be fully into the eclipse by 9:23pm. It will start passing out of the earth's shadow at 9.54pm and the eclipse will be over by 11.30pm.
In Nicosia, the moon will rise at 4.24pm and will set at 7.24am on January 1st, 2010.
