UK Foreign Office Warns on Kenya Terrorist Attacks

kenya terrorist warningsThe UK Foreign Office has warned British citizens to be extra vigilant in Kenya after Kenyan authorities sent an alert to a heightened threat from terrorist attacks in Nairobi.

"We believe that terrorists may be in the final stages of planning attacks. Attacks could be indiscriminate and target Kenyan institutions as well as places where expatriates and foreign travellers gather, such as hotels, shopping centres and beaches," says a statement from the Foreign Office.

British nationals are strongly urged to exercise extra vigilance and caution in public places and at public events, said the foreign office.

In 1998, the US Embassy in Nairobi, Tanzania and Dar es Salaam were attacked by terrorists with truck bombs which killed hundreds of people. The attacks were linked to Al Qaeda and put Osama bin Laden on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list.
