Teenage Ormidhia Boy Dies in Road Accident

A 17-year-old boy met an untimely death in a road accident on the Protaras-Larnaca highway close to the village of Ormidhia, said Dekhelia police today.

The victim, Alexandros Pouros, was a passenger in a car being driven illegally by another 17-year-old, according to police information.

The two boys from Ormidhia were in a saloon car which crashed into a concrete piling on the side of the highway at 11.45 last night. Pouros, the passenger, was thrown out of the car and critically injured.

"He was alive when he was taken to Larnaca hospital," said Inspector Charlis of the Dekhelia police who are working in liaison with the Cyprus police.

He went on to say that the boy died later on in Nicosia General Hospital at 3.30am.

It's likely that the underaged driver of the car lost control, however, this cannot be confirmed officially until the investigation is concluded, said Charlis.
