22-year-old Man Murdered in Suspected Gangland Hit
Authorities are investigating the murder of 22-year-old Andreas Papadopoulos, aka 'Afros' (foam), who was found with a bullet in his head at 4.20 am in a parked car in Ayios Trimithias.
The Lakatamia resident appears to have been shot at close range, said Kypros Michaelides, police director. Papdopoulos was known to have given trouble to the police in the past, said Michaelides. It is the second suspected gangland hit within two months after Charalambos Charalambous, aka 'The Frog', was murdered in Nicosia on December 14, 2011.
In other crime news, former police spokesman Michalis Katsounodos was the target of a grenade attack on his house in Nicosia last night. Katsounodos was on duty at the time and nobody was hurt in the explosion, said investigators. There were no arrests at the time of writing.
