Russia To Help Greece By Buying Its Products - Report

Russian authorities will start a campaign aimed at helping debt-ridden Greece by encouraging Russians to buy Greek products, according to Itar-tass news agency.

The campaign called “Help Greece!” will be launched by the Russian Federal Agency for international humanitarian cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) on March 25th, two days before the “Hellenic Republic will mark the 191st independence anniversary,” says Itar-tass.

“We have calculated that if each Russian spends during a year 3-4 thousand rubles on Greek goods it will give the Greek economy 15-18 billion Euros of export revenues,” said Rossotrudnichestvo deputy head Georgy Muradov, to the Russian news agency.

“Greece is a country which is close to us historically, in civilization and we have to assist the brotherly Greek people in hard times of economic, social, and political crisis. We hope our society will back the action,” added the Russian diplomat who has previously served as the ambassador of his country to Cyprus.

The agency will urge the Russians to buy among other Greek goods, olive oil, olives and wine and it will organise fairs, presentations and food functions to promote Greek products, resorts and real estate.

According to Itar-tass 67 percent of respondents in an Echo Moskvy radio station telephone poll expressed their eagerness to buy Greek goods and the opposition Communist Party is backing the idea.
