Suspect For Jewish School Murders Is Dead - Report

Mohamed Merah, the man suspected of killing 3 children and a teacher at a Jewish school in Toulouse, France, was killed Thursday after police stormed his apartment following a two day stand-off, according to France 24.

Merah, a 24 year-old Frenchman of Algerian descent, resisted arrest during the siege during which an exchange of fire that lasted for a few minutes injured three police commandos, one of them seriously.  He was shot in the head while he was jumping out of the window, still firing his gun, said French police.

Mohammed Merach’s death was confirmed by Interior Minister of France Jean-Claude Guéant who said that the suspect was killed by falling from his flat’s bathroom window.

"He was found dead on the ground," he told reporters.

According to reports he had close contacts with Al – Qaida and he was also suspected of the killing of three French soldiers after being radicalised in an extreme fundamentalist Muslim school in Pakistan.

French President Nikolas Sarkozy said that an investigation was underway to ascertain whether he was acting alone or with Al-Qaida and appealed for the French not to hold the Muslim community responsible for the actions of a lone gunman.

"Apologists and promoters of terrorism will be punished according to our laws," he said.
