President Names New Ministers

President Demetris Christofias has appointed Erato Kozakou-Markoulli as the new minister of Communications and Works and Demetris Iliades as the new Minister of Agriculture, said government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou.

They replace Nicos Nicolaides and Michalis Polynikis who were members of EDEK and resigned when the party pulled out of the ruling coalition.

Markoulli studied law and served as foreign minister in former president Tassos Papadopoulos' cabinet. She is a career diplomat who worked at the foreign ministry from 1980-2007.

Iliades is also a lawyer and a member of the European Association of Legislation as well as a past president of the environment parliamentary committee.
