Talat Declares Candidacy for Elections
Turkish-Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat has officially declared his candidacy in upcoming elections in the Turkish-Cypriot community, running against favourite Dervis Eroglu for president of the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Talat is running as an independent and according to a new poll by the Cyprus Center for Social and Economic Research (KADEM), Dervis Eroglu is slightly ahead of him.
The poll had 1786 respondents and showed that if elections were carried out today, Eroglu would get 52.9 percent of votes and Talat 47.1 percent.
Elections in the Turkish-Cypriot community are set for April 18th.
