Papadopoulos Body Found - Police

The remains of a body found in Strovolos cemetary last night have been confirmed by DNA testing as those of former president Tassos Papadopoulos, said a police spokesman speaking to CyprusNewsReport.com.

There are still no suspects in the case, said the spokesman. The remains were found after an anonymous tip-off was made to investigators from a phone booth in the Tseri area at 6.30pm, not far from the new Strovolos cemetary where the body was found.

"We got the results at twenty-to-five in the morning and would like to thank the Institute of Neurology and Genetics...who worked through the night so that we would have the results quickly," said police spokesman Michalis Katsounodos in comments to the Cyprus News Agency.

Papadopoulos' body was stolen from his grave on December 11th, 2009 by unknown persons and the case was being investigated by Interpol and the FBI.
