No Water Cuts This Year
There will be no water cuts this year and water reserves in Cyprus' dams are expected to last well into 2011, said the new Minister of Agriculture Demetris Iliades.
The news will come as a relief to residents of the island, who experienced water cuts even through this winter due to critically low water reserves. Cuts were reinstated on January 11th but were stopped on February 23rd after heavy rainfalls.
However, consumers will not be happy about expected rises in the price of water. Water bills are expected to rise by the end of 2010, said the minister, adding that the government is acting under EU instructions.
