gilad shalit releaseIsraeli soldier Gilad Shalit has been released to his family via Egypt in a Palestinian prisoner release deal, one week after the deal was approved by the Israeli state.

Shalit's family were met by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Tel Nof Airforce Base during the release from Gaza, in which the soldier was due for release in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.

NICOSIA - Israel's expansion of settlement activities in Gilo, East Jerusalem are a negative development as they will create more obstacles to the prospect of direct talks between the Palestinians and Israel, said Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis.
